Plan a Visit to St. James Church

Visiting a new church can cause some anxiety. You don’t know what to wear, where to park, how long the service will be, how friendly the congregation will be, what the order of service is or what the church can offer your kids.

Because we understand this and want to replace that anxiety with anticipation, we have answered some of the most asked questions below. If we missed your question, please complete the form below and we will get right back to you.

What’s a Service Like?

We are Methodists, so our order of service is typically the same from week to week and easy to get used to. We encourage you to sing along, clap your hands and express yourself as you feel comfortable. Music is a great way of expressing our love for God and showing appreciation for what He has done for us.

  • Our services typically last about 70 minutes and are in-person and online at FB Live (@stjamessanmateo). Miss a Sunday? No worries, visit the website to view past sermons (www.stjameschurch.org).
  • There will likely be a few times that one of the leaders will pray during the service. You will also be asked to sit or to stand during those prayers. We’ll always make sure you know exactly what to do and we won’t leave you guessing.
  • Our pastor or assigned leader will teach a lesson from the Bible. Our goal is to help everyone understand the Bible and to apply it to their lives. The teaching will be practical and challenging, and hopefully will inspire you in your personal pursuit of God.

Will I Have To Identify Myself or Be Called Out?

We want you to feel welcome at St. James Church. You’ll never be asked to stand up, identify yourself, or anything else that might make you feel uncomfortable, but if you’d like to share, feel free to tell us who you are and where you’re from. We love having new friends worship with us!

Am I Expected to Give Money?

As our guest, we do not expect any money from you.  You will have an opportunity if you desire, to participate in our worship through giving. The offering is a way for the St. James Church family to respond to God and join the mission of the church through their giving. If you’re new, we don’t expect you to give. Our service is a gift to you.

If you do consider St. James Church your church home, we’d love for you to prayerfully consider regular giving. Tithing is our mode of financial stewardship. We have several ways to participate in giving: CashApp, Givelify, Text to Give, checks and cash. We have done our best to make it effortless for you to participate in this important aspect of worship.
